New astronomical discovery: New Caracteriasticas planet similar to Earth's
Astronomers at the University of California (UC) Santa Cruz in the United States, reported the discovery of a new planet with characteristics Earth-like, with a distance similar to that maintained with the Sun
The National Aeronautics and Space Administratio (NASA), sponsor of the project, said the discovery of the planet Gliese 581G is the result of more than a decade of observations obtained at the WM Keck Observatory in Hawaii, through which we identified the location of the new star, placing it in an area where liquid water could exist on the surface, marking it as the closest planet to Earth and giving greater possibilities of extraterrestrial life so far discovered.
NASA said that the results obtained by scientists from the UC had predicted the existence of planets in the habitable zone for possible close to the Sun, but with the latest results Gliese 581G becomes the first planet identified and measured by scientists, introducing large enough to have the necessary gravitational force to maintain an atmosphere.
The document published in the Astrophysical Journal, scientists Paul Butler and Stephen Vogt noted that the similarities between 581G and Earth Gliese not only based on the possibility of liquid water and air capacity, indicated that Gliese 581G has six or seven planets orbiting around it similar to our Solar System. The
researchers found that 581G is a planet Gliese "potentially habitable," but indicated that the presence of water does not guarantee the existence of life similar to that of men due to the multiple factors that involve human life.
